Taking out the trees in the back yard

In the interest of improving our backyard (getting sunlight to the poor grass, opening up play space, getting rid of rising roots), Kurt bought a little chain saw, and cut down two trees after dinner Saturday. Here's the reaction:

Joseph fell asleep right after the missionaries left Saturday, so missed the whole event. He was pretty surprised this morning!!

Caleb: I liked dragging the branches over to the side, and carrying firewood to stack. I love the tree stumps.

Beth: I liked it when my dad's chainsaw got stuck!

Jacob: when my dad got his chainsaw stuck in the tree and almost broke it and when
I got to use the hand saw on the branches of the tree!!!!

Michael: seeing the chainsaw get stuck and getting to use the handsaw

Rebekah: I am the Lorax, I speak for the trees! (that's from Dr. Seuss) and those trees did NOT want to be cut down! Dad's a tree murderer, who not only hacks down trees, he crushes innocent bystanders!(the bushes).I also speak for the dogs, and he wanted out! Now there won't be any more flowering trees in the spring :( except that dad has to plant a new one somewhere. The yard seems huge and empty now.

This picture is the first limb that came down
... and the "after" shot the next morning:
