Favorites from Oaks Park

Every summer our library reading program's main prize is cheap tickets to Oaks Park, an ancient amusement park in Portland. The kids love to go, though Rebekah didn't mind missing this year because of band camp. Before we've had to go on our library's one day, but this year, it was any day of about three weeks. And Wednesday Aug. 31st was what finally worked for us.

Nathan: LOVED the rides, especially the carousel and cars. He was so happy towards the end when he and Caleb got to ride over and over while we were waiting for the older kids to go on other rides. (Joseph, Daniel and Beth on the kiddie roller coaster, and Michael and Jacob on the bumper cars, which both had LO-O-Ong lines:)

Daniel: was very frustrated that he couldn't go on all the big kid rides. He surprised me by loving the carousel, riding the horses (not other cool animals they had--I put Nathan on a white tiger and a giraffe, but Daniel just wanted horses). When he was especially mad about not getting to go on a certain ride, he wasn't interested in the 'kiddie' rides like the cars or rockets or motorcycles (which he actually likes), but was distracted by the carousel. Thankfully!

Joseph: being tall enough to go on the Screaming Eagle! I went upside down. that's all:) (the picture is the Screaming Eagle getting started, but you can just see Jacob, not Joseph)

Caleb: the Big Pink slide (that isn't just pink anymore, but they didn't change the name!)

Beth: the Looping Thunder (the BIG roller coaster, with a loop-de-loop!) with Michael and Jacob (I didn't get a picture of that one, so this picture is the kiddie roller coaster, which she also rode)

Jacob: bumper cars because i smashed Michael 11 times

Michael: Bumper cars, I'm really good at maneuvering in traffic, lapped Jacob 6 times, and rammed him 6 times, for a total of 18 points (laps worth double)(Jacob only got 11 points)

They all (except Nathan) loved the 'Frog-Hopper' and even Nathan got to ride the Ferris Wheel (Daniel's request).
