Five months ago I was excited to find a 'groupon' deal to the Aquarium in Newport. We'd been once almost nine years ago, and I knew they'd love it. But then we found our new house and moved and almost ran out of summer! Even though I remembered the distance to Newport wrong (I thought it was 2 hours, but it was more than 2 1/2 each way), it was a good family end-of-vacation activity:) And we just listened to more Harry Potter, so most of the kids didn't mind the extra drive.
Nathan: was fascinated by all of the sealife, and kept trying to climb into the tanks of water.
Daniel: liked the alligators and frogs (poison dart frogs) and penguins (actually, they were puffins), and sharks. (he also thought the skulls were cool.)
Joseph: the sea lion show (no pictures of him there, but I loved this one)
Caleb: the huge spider crabs, and the Passages of the Deep, where you walk down the glass tunnel inside the shark tank and other fish tanks. (this is looking at the fish underneath in the tunnel)
Beth: the sea lion training and feeding show
Jacob: liked it; my favorite thing was either seals and sea lions or the tunnels of sharks and things like that.
Michael: a bit boring, more just a zoo, tunnel was cool, but 5 hours of driving for 3 hours of looking at animals, not really a good tradeoff
Rebekah: I loved it. the poison dart frogs were so cute, as were the sealions and seals. Watching the sealion training session was really cool. i loved the little pink sea-anemones, and the purple one that i got to touch. The shark and fish tunnels were awesome, and I think the best part of that was watching Nathan's reaction. I like aquariums.
